After another cooked breakfast it was time to leave Waitomo and head to Rotorua. It was pretty clear when we started to get close as the stench of eggs hit everyone on the bus and one by one we all started pulling faces! Our first stop was Te Puia where we saw a huge geyser spurting out water about 94 degrees Celsius!
As well as the geyser, they had bubbling mud pools, a cultural centre where you could see Maori weavings and carvings as well as a Kiwi!
Next, we headed to the gondola and luges . We had over an hour here, so we grabbed a bit of lunch before heading to the luges. They were so much fun!
After we had finished, we headed with everyone to do Ogo (kinda like zorbing). Emma and I decide do against doing it, but we still had to wait and watch everyone else do it which was a bit annoying, but we just watched greys anatomy to pass the time!
Dinner was included tonight a small part of the Maori experience. It was cooked in a hangi and we had a huge variety of meats, veg and salads... I had to try a bit of everything! (Even fish... I didn't hate it!) The selection of puddings was also on point.. pavlova, fruit, bread and butter pudding, chocolate cake and custard. Delicious!
After dinner, some local Maori's put on a cultural show performing traditional songs and dances. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!
We then went out to a few local bars, we have come to realise that Base backpackers more often than not are attached to the bar recommended by our tour guide!
The following morning we had nothing planned so we had a chilled morning for a change! We caught the bus at around 1ish to head to Hobbiton! I haven't seen all the Lord of the Rings or Hobbit films yet, so quite a bit of the guided tour stuff went over my head... but it was still totally awesome! We also got a free cider in the green dragon which was pretty cool.
For dinner, we went to the night market and I got some dumplings... I'm fully obsessed with dumplings at the moment! A few people went to the Irish bar afterwards, but I had literally emptied the whole of my bag over my room so ended up picking up alcohol for the boat party tomorrow and then sorting all my bits out!
Rotorua is amazing, so much culture and heaps of things to do... the only downside isn't the smell of sulphur!
