Christchurch - The Big Tiki

Monday 13th February - Tuesday 14th February 2017

The journey from Wellington to Christchurch was long and boring. We left the hotel at 7:45am to catch the 9am ferry to the South Island. The weather wasn't great, so the sea was quite choppy! Luckily we managed to blag ourselves into a lounge, we were supposed to pay $20 for but no one asked so we were good!

When we landed on the South Island, we had about a 7 hour drive to get to Christchurch. We stopped at the beautiful Lake Rotoiti and we all took matching Instagram photos!

We also fed the ducks and eels whilst we were there, and even managed to find some adorable ducklings.

We eventually got to Christchurch at around 9ish and we were exhausted! Most of our group went out for food but Emma and I had food from the hotel so we could get to sleep quicker! Our hotel room wa pretty cool though, the bathroom looked like a space shuttle and the shower had mood lighting!

As we got to Christchurch quite late the night before and didn't get to see anything, Hayley gave us a walking tour this morning. We went to the cathedral first, its very damaged from the earthquake - as are most of the buildings here.

Next we went over to the Margaret Mahy family playground - the most awesome playground I have ever been to! Margaret was a famous children's author from Christchurch and the park was dedicated to her after she died, and they had local children help to design the place.

The last place we looked at before getting on the coach was the new cathedral made from plastic and cardboard.
